Commitment to Community
Bueno's purpose is to have a positive influence on people's lives through our products and organization. We strive to make people's lives better through the opportunities and jobs we provide and through our community involvement. From its inception, Bueno Foods has always believed in giving back to its community.
Helping to Meet Basic Needs
- Contributes between 3 and 6 percent of after-tax profits to organizations that help people meet basic needs including housing, food and education.
- Regularly donates food to local food banks and to centers that feed the homeless.
- Supports a host of organizations through United Way.
- Continually supports many church and city fundraising activities by contributing product, money and volunteers especially for programs that benefit women and children.
- Participates and sponsors Ryan's Run, a fundraising event for the Ronald McDonald House. Also supports the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Encouraging Education
- Jacqueline Baca served on the 2003 University of New Mexico Presidential Search Committee, representing the UNM Alumni Association.
- Annually awards two $1,000 college scholarships through the Hispano Chamber of Commerce since 1989.
- Join-A-School partners with Dolores Gonzales Elementary and with Atrisco
Elementary, providing food for fund raisers, money for computers, books and field trips, and savings bonds for diligent students.
- Members of the Baca family serve on the scholarship committees for PNM and McDonald's HACER program.
- Bueno employees act as role models at career fairs and weekly tutors in a school reading program.
- Contributed to Dolores Gonzales Elementary School to help fund library books and a computer lab.
- Supports the Golden Apple Foundation which recognizes and rewards educators.
- Contributed to Highlands University, the UNM Presidential Scholarship program, The University of New Mexico's Center for Entrepreneurship, and the General Library at The University of New Mexico.
- Provides paid internships to high school seniors through programs such as the Choices: School to Work Program and to college-age students returning to New Mexico for the summer.
- The company participated in flex work schedules long before it became fashionable. A decade ago, Founder Joseph J. Baca estimated that 1,000 employees had received college or trade school degrees by going to school while working in Bueno jobs structured to meet their schedules.
- Supports the South Valley Academy with money for infrastructure and food for fund-raising.
Supporting the Barelas Community
- Supports the South Valley community of Barelas where Bueno Foods is located by providing hundreds of jobs in this "Pocket of Poverty."
- Contributes to the National Hispanic Cultural Foundation, which benefits the National Hispanic Cultural Center, whose mission is to maintain and celebrate the Hispanic heritage.
- Sponsors the New Mexico Chile Harvest Festival which brings the greater Albuquerque community into the heart of Barelas to enjoy food and culture.
- Jacqueline Baca serves on the Board of the Barelas Community Development Corporation (CDC).
- Every Christmas, The Bueno Family participates in a gift giving program at its partner schools, providing food, clothes, toys and money to families.
